Veterans Day Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic church includes a very patriotic and memorable experience for OLV students. The Air Force JROTC from Wasilla High initiates the program with the posting of the colors before Mass. Students sing several patriotic songs and the OLV chime choir chimes the song entitled "Prayer for Peace". A program entitled "Numbers" is read by twelve students which includes the number of soldiers that served, were wounded and died in all the wars dating back to the American Revolution. Each of the Veterans is given a wooden cross to remind them that God is ever present in our lives.Following the Mass a reception is held in the social hall which is decorated with red, white and blue colors. An appreciation bag given to each Veteran has a small token of OLV's gratitude with the message that they are not forgotten. Students sit and visit with the Veterans during the reception to acknowledge their thankfulness for their service which insured our freedom.
