OLV students continue the tradition of writing letters to Alaska Honor Flight Veterans.
For several years OLV students have written letters to Alaskan veterans before they take off on their flight to Washington D.C. Each state sends a delegation of veterans from past wars on this memorable trip. This year the 1st, 2nd 3rd and 4th graders eagerly collected their thoughts of gratitude and offered our veterans prayers and best wishes for their trip. While on the plane when mail call is announced, the veterans are each given their hand written letter. This intergenerational writing experience brings an awareness of the sacrifices and patriotism of our American veterans.
Each veteran will also receives a holy card with the prayer to St. Michael the Archangel and an invitation to attend a Veterans Day Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on November 10th @ 9:00. Students will at this Mass present a special presentation entitled “Numbers”, remembering the veterans of past wars.
OLV students are always proud to share that their parents or relatives also served in the military. These letters often bring a smile or tear conveying to our veterans that they are not forgotten.
