Our Family Promise ministry needs lots of help and we have a place for you! We usually host for one week at a member church, during the early evenings and overnights.
We need meals and supplies for our families. Beside meals, I ask you to consider expanding your volunteer involvement to hosting. If you haven't volunteered in some time, this opportunity may be just the right fit.
Hosting has 2 options: early evening 5:30-9:00 pm and overnight 9:00 pm-morning. The morning departure is dependent on your schedule, if you need to leave by 7am that can be arranged. If you need to leave earlier or later that is workable as well.
The 5:30-9:00 pm hosting shift is an opportunity to share a meal and light hearted conversation with the guests, helping to alleviate some of the stress they are experiencing by spending a short amount of time with them at the dinner table. Then it's a bit of relaxing time, each guest and you have their own private rooms plus there is a library and kids play area for all to utilize. I have often brought projects I need to finish on this shift or books to read. The families then get lunches ready if they choose, kids showered and off to bed.
The 9:00 pm-morning shift is typically bedtime upon arrival as the guests have settled the kids down and thus themselves in their rooms. Then morning rise and, though some may leave earlier for work, all guests would leave when you need to. The guests make their own breakfast prior to leaving if they choose. In order to host, an online training session on the Archdiocese website "Safe and Sacred" needs to be completed and a certificate issued. The online training takes about 1 hour. After completion, Sacred Heart will require a background check (free of charge.) Archdiocese link to Safe Environment
The Archdiocese link above will send you to a page to create an account. Once activated you begin the training. At the end a certificate is emailed to you , which you would forward to me. Then get in touch with the office (907) 376-5087 and let them know that you are volunteering for Family Promise and need a background check. You will be emailed a short form to complete.
